Results of the Le Pines Triples for 2017

First bowl of the season

First bowl of the season

The Le Pine Triples Tournament 2nd September 2017.

The day started with some of our members busy in the kitchen making delicious ham and salad rolls and preparing platters for our visitors. Thanks to all who helped purchase and prepare the food.

The event commenced with our President Michael Walker welcoming  our Guest the Hon. John Pesutto and the 18 teams.

The Tournament and our 2017/18 bowls season were then officially opened by John Pesutto who then rolled down a bowl to open  the green, and a very good bowl at that.

The Tournament consisted of three games of ten ends of two bowl triples. After the first game nibbles and drinks were enjoyed around the bar.  Thanks to Travis for his great work behind the bar. Then out for another 10 ends of bowls, the weather was not the best but the rain was only short lived and the wind not too bad. Following this set of games afternoon tea was served in the dining room, where all enjoyed the ham and salad rolls and the odd beverage as well.

Back to the green and the final game, with the prizes still up for grabs with some of the better performed teams playing each other. Then while the players enjoyed and drink and a barbeque cooked by Damo and helpers or score board official Julie Drummond did her final calculations.

The winners were. Mick Diorietes, Rod and Don Clancy the only team with 3 wins taking away the first prize of $540.

The Le Pine Triples Tournament

The Le  Pine Triples Tournament has been in the Auburn Bowls Club calendar of events for many years.

In the early days the event was referred to as the Men’s Open Triples Sponsored by Le Pines. Now with bowls being equal opportunity sport the event is called the Le Pine Triples and is open to all bowls players.

This Tournament for a long time has been played in January on the Saturday before the  first round of Pennant following Christmas. It was a friendly way of getting back into competition mode, by enjoying this half day events. Teams are entered from  Auburn  and our neighbouring Clubs such as Richmond Union and Hawthorn, but all bowlers are welcome to enter.

This year due to the Green Keeper needing to do some work on our Grass Green to have it at its best for the Pennant Season we have re scheduled the Tournament to the 2nd September. The completion consists of three games of 10 ends of two bowl triples.  All teams play on both the Grass and the Synthetic rinks. The event starts to 12.30 with breaks between each game with lunch following the first games and a drink and snacks break after the 2nd game.

Prizes are $540 first, $180 second and $90 for the best last game, so you are always able to win something even if your first couple of games are not too good.

It only Cost $30 per team to enter.

Auburn launches its New Website.

A new Website was due, our old site was starting to look a little long in the tooth. Within the last year we have added more Social media to the site so it was only a matter of time before we had to update the website.

The New Website we had to have good images of the club, so we had professional photographer  Open2view Camberwell and we couldn’t be happier.  As you can see the images are stunning.
